Travelers' checks, like international credit cards, are widely accepted in stores in the main cities and in the main tourism destinations in the country. In the more remote towns it is difficult to cash travelers' checks.

Foreigners are recommended to issue their checks in U.S. dollars.

CREDIT CARDS

Using credit cards is easy in Chile's main cities and tourism centers. Stores and business establishments will accept Visa, MasterCard, Diners and American Express cards, among others, without any kind of problem. The transaction does not suffer a surcharge and you receive a convenient exchange rate.

Card acceptance is considerably reduced in small towns and communities, for which reason when visiting these it is recommended you take with you cash in local currency: the Chilean peso. This will prevent any unpleasant surprises.
