However over the continental and peninsular territory of the Republic
some native
languages are regionally spoken, such
as
mapudungun or
mapuche in some of the southern
communities, aymara in the northern high plateaus and rapa nui on
Easter Island.
PUBLICATIONS
Chile is a democratic country with unrestricted
freedom of the press. The graphic media publish the expressions
of different ideologies and currents of human opinion, reporting
in full everything that is happening in the country.
Currently 25 periodicals are published in the country, of which 16 are regional. The most important and traditional newspaper is El Mercurio, with the longest history of publication. Other important newspapers are La Nacion, Ultimas Noticias and La Tercera.
The most important magazine is Que pasa, a weekly political journal. Others are Vea, Caras, Cosas, etc.
