DAY 01: PUCON: Trekking Huerquehue National Park
Huerquehue, which means “Place of Messengers” in the Mapudungun language, is located 35 km from Pucon, on the Caburga – Paillaco route, its has an area of 12.500 hectares. This beautiful pre-cordilleran park characterizes for having a mountainous surface, where hills and ravines enclose numerous lakes and lagoons of crystalline waters, such as Lake Tinquilco. Its most frequent flora is represented by the araucaria, the lenga beech, the larch and the michay. Among its fauna, the condor, the fox, the toad (Bufo variegatus), the Frog of Darwin and the chucao stand out. The places with the most beautiful scenery are the Verde and Toro Lagoons, the Canyon of the Renahue River and the Quinchol and Araucano Mountains. You can watch amazing landscapes within the park. This excursion runs through trails climbing up the mountain, where you can appreciate different landscapes and types of vegetation, from the forests of coigue of the lower zones to the forests of araucarias of the high summits.

WEATHER
Pucon has a mild weather with winter downpours and a short and relatively dry season in the summer months (December to March). The annual precipitations are above 2000 mm, while the thermal regime registers an oscillation of 5.0° C with an annual average temperature of almost 12.0° C, an average temperature of 8.0° C in the coldest month (July) and a temperature of 15° C in the warmest month (February).
WHAT TO PACK
Consider the chance of rainfalls during the entire year, therefore pack impermeable clothes, water resistant footwear for the excursions, warming clothes, polar, gloves, bathing suit both for the winter and the summer, sandals for the thermal baths, sun cap, sunscreen and shades.
WATER
There is fresh water in almost the entire territory, although it is advisable to drink bottled water in rural areas.
HEALTH
In Pucon and Villarrica you will find hospitals and private clinics, as well as fully stocked pharmacies.
CHILEAN GASTRONOMY
Chilean cuisine is very diverse. Among its typical dishes we have: Empanada de Pino (dough stuffed with onion, meat, raisins and olives), Pastel de Choclo (made mainly of corn with meat, eggs and olives), Porotos Granados (tender potatoes cooked with gourd and corn), Cazuela de Ave o Vacuno (clear soup of chicken or beef with boiled vegetables), besides those typical of each region.
Lastly, you can not fail to taste the exquisite Mote con Huesillos, a dessert elaborated from a boiled fruit and mote wheat.
In the region of Pucon, the German kuchenes are a classic produce of the German colonization of the zone, along with the cecinas (salty meat smoked or sun dried), sausages and they marzipan.
