WEATHER
Santiago has a mild weather with Mediterranean hints. In the summer – December through March – the thermometers can rise up to 30º C, while there are intense though brief downpours in the winter – June through August –. The annual average is of 14° C. The City of Valparaiso has a subtropical weather, with an average temperature of 20° C.
WHAT TO PACK
It is necessary to pack all kinds of clothes, since it is very cold in winter mornings in the capital and temperatures can reach highs of 30º C in the summer.
WATER
There is fresh water in almost the entire territory, although, it is advisable to drink bottled water in rural areas; more though if you are not used to tap water.
HEALTH
Santiago has an important network of hospitals, clinics and medic posts, most of which have an emergency service.
CHILEAN GASTRONOMY
Chilean cuisine is very diverse. Among its typical dishes we have: Empanada de Pino (dough stuffed with onion, meat, raisins and olives), Pastel de Choclo (made mainly of corn with meat, eggs and olives), Porotos Granados (tender potatoes cooked with gourd and corn), Cazuela de Ave o Vacuno (clear soup of chicken or beef with boiled vegetables), besides those typical of each region.
Lastly, you can not fail to taste the exquisite Mote con Huesillos, a dessert elaborated from a boiled fruit and mote wheat.
