WEATHER
Easter Island has a sub tropical weather, influenced by the winds and the ocean currents, with an annual average temperature of 20° C.
In rains all year round on the island of the Rapa Nui – another name for Easter Island –, although sporadically and for short periods of time. May is the month with the most pluvial precipitations.
WHAT TO PACK
Easter Island has a mild weather, rather warm, during the summer (December through March) and somewhat cool during the winter. Include a light parka by all means or a watertight cape to cope with the frequent rain showers, sunscreen, bathing suit, sun cap and a warming coat for the winter.
WATER
There is fresh water in almost the entire territory, although, it is advisable to drink bottled water in rural areas; more though if you are not used to tap water.
HEALTH
We can find several hospitals on the island, though one of the most recommended is the Hanga Roa Hospital, which has all the necessary equipment to perform surgeries and respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day. Besides, it has dental and pharmaceutical services. Despite this medical backup, we strongly recommend you to bring all your medications of frequent use with you.
CHILEAN GASTRONOMY
Chilean cuisine is very diverse. Among its typical dishes we have: Empanada de Pino (dough stuffed with onion, meat, raisins and olives), Pastel de Choclo (made mainly of corn with meat, eggs and olives), Porotos Granados (tender potatoes cooked with gourd and corn), Cazuela de Ave o Vacuno (clear soup of chicken or beef with boiled vegetables), besides those typical of each region.
Lastly, you can not fail to taste the exquisite Mote con Huesillos, a dessert elaborated from a boiled fruit and mote wheat.
