We continue to the region of the Akahanga Ahu, whose legend tells us that the tomb of renowned King Hotu Matua is located at the side of the Ahu. We continue towards one of the most important places of the Rapa Nui Culture, the Rano Raraku Quarry, located on the slope of the volcano with the same name, where approximately 900 statues in total were carved, 397 of which are still lying or standing on different stages of their construction and transportation. We will proceed towards the Tongariki Ahu, restored in 1995, with its 15 standing statues. Then we will visit the archaeological remains called "Navel of the World". In the afternoon we visit the Akivi Ahu, archaeological center of the Roihi Sector, it was the first one scientifically restored in the 1960s; it is a particularly interesting ceremonial place not only because of its location (in the middle of the island) but also because of the legends surrounding its seven Moai, which represent the seven first explorers sent to scout the island by King Hotu Matua. We continue towards the Ana Tepahu Caves and the Puna Pau Quarry, located east of Hanga Roa, a small crater of red rock where the pukao or head adornments crowning the Moai were extracted from.
