Useful Information
WEATHER
The weather is cold almost throughout the entire year, although it gets a little warmer in summer (December to March), when if lucky, you may enjoy plenty of sunny days with high temperatures of about 25º C. Precipitations are low during the whole year due to the influence of the Andes and Lake General Carrera, though there is always the chance of having snow or water precipitations. Temperatures in winter occasionally drop up to a minimum of -5º C while the maximum gets close to 15º C.
WHAT TO PACK
It is recommended to carry waterproof pants and jackets, thermal t-shirts, windproof polar jacket, cap with ear coverers, thermal gloves and socks, short pants, sandals, shades with UV protection, sunscreen (factor 30 minimum) for face and lips, repellent, sun cap, waterproof hiking shoes (wear them before traveling if new), among other warming items of clothing.
WATER
There is fresh water in almost the entire territory, though it is advisable to drink bottled water in rural areas.
HEALTH
There is a health post or infirmary in Puerto Guadal that offers basic medical care. For further attention it is necessary to go to Coyhaique, capital of the XI Aysen Region, where you will find hospitals and clinics.
It is recommendable to carry with you your regular medicine and to avoid solar radiation.
CHILEAN GASTRONOMY
Chilean cuisine is very diverse. Among its typical dishes we have: Empanada de Pino (dough stuffed with onion, meat, raisins and olives), Pastel de Choclo (made mainly of corn with meat, eggs and olives), Porotos Granados (tender potatoes cooked with gourd and corn), Cazuela de Ave o Vacuno (clear soup of chicken or beef with boiled vegetables), besides those typical of each region.
Lastly, you can not fail to taste the exquisite Mote con Huesillos, a dessert elaborated from a boiled fruit and mote wheat.
