DAY 01: CALAMA - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA: Visit to Valle de la Luna.

Arrival in Calama, reception and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, small town located at 98 km from Calama, at the foot of the Andean Mountain Range and beside the great Salt Deposit of Atacama.
In the afternoon visit to the mythical Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), a landscape of peculiar geological formations dyed in white by the salt, which give them a moonlike look. On the way we will stop to take pictures of the Salt Cordillera. In the Valle de la Luna we take a walk through different sectors, visit the statues made of salt known as “Las Tres Marías”, the mine and the caves of salt, ending at the great Central Dune, where we will watch the sunset and a panoramic view of the valley and the cordilleras surrounding San Pedro. Return to your hotel.

DAY 02: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA: Lagoons in the Altiplano and Salt Deposit of Atacama

Departure at 08:00 AM, from the hotels. Visit to the Town of Toconao, typical handicraft from the zone of Atacama (made of llama and alpaca wool, cactus wood and volcanic rock), besides the Tower of San Lucas (National Monument and town symbol). Then we visit the Salt Deposit of Atacama and enter the National Reserve of Los Flamencos (Chaxas Lagoon Sector). We will continue toward the Altiplano to reach the Lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques at 4150 meters above sea level. We will make a short stop in the Town of Socaire (3,200 m) to acclimatize and photograph the small church of Saint Bartholomew. Return to San Pedro at 19:00 hours approx.

DAY 03: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA: Archaeological tour

Breakfast. In the morning we visit the archaeological ruins located in the surroundings of San Pedro, through which we can appreciate the genesis and development of the Atacama Culture. We visit the Pucará de Quitor, a fortress built in the XII century of our time, where the local people stood up and faced the Spanish conquest. We continue toward the Town of Catarpe, an Incan administrative center built to collect taxes in the valley. Then we will visit the ruins of the Village of Tulor, the first cultural remains in the zone dating back over 2.800 years. Return to San Pedro through the Ayllu de Séquitor.
Afternoon off for optional tours. The Town of San Pedro is a very picturesque place and it is worth a ramble across its narrow streets of mud houses, its handicraft fair, its typical restaurants, church and museum, all a few steps away from your hotel.

DAY 04: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – CALAMA: Visit to Geysers of Tatio towns in the Altiplano

At daybreak, (04:00 AM) we set off to the Geysers of Tatio, a spectacular geothermic field located at 4,320 meters above sea level, with cracks that expel wide columns of steam with temperatures reaching up to 85° C. At dawn, when the temperatures drop below zero, the landscape becomes yet more amazing and the spurts can reach heights of up to 7 meters. The phenomenon is produced by the contact between the cold subterranean river and the magma of the Tatio Volcano. Breakfast in the place and the possibility of taking a bath in the pool of thermal waters. We continue toward Caspana, a settlement in the cordillera that still maintains its ancestral traditions (old town and church). Then we continue toward the Pucará of Lasana, where we will tour the ruins of a fortress destined to protect the fertile valley, the petroglyphs in the valley of the Loa River, the Inca Coya Lagoon and the church and town of Chiu-Chiu. Return to Calama; estimated time: 16:00hrs.Transfer to the airport or bus terminal in Calama.
