DAY 01: Arrival in Iquique

DAY 02: IQUIQUE: City Tour

Breakfast. Visit to a city that was know as a great port for saltpeter in old times that nowadays combines modern constructions and tourism with architectonic relics of American Georgian style.
The tour begins in the extensive coastal sector, the Peninsula of Cavancha and beautiful beaches, to then move forward towards the historic center and the architectonic beauty of its avenues built in the late XIX century, dressed with glossy Oregon pine; its majestic and imposing Municipal Theater stand out, and the Astoreca Palace, a museum holding the Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture). Visit to the exotic building of the Spanish Center, of Moor-like style, with stucco and polychrome woods. It continues towards the port sector and the monument to “The Unknown Seaman” in the famous inlet of Iquique, in memoriam to Captain Arturo Prat, national hero killed during the War of the Pacific in this place. Return to the hotel.

DAY 03: IQUIQUE: Excursion to the Saltpeter Mine Offices, Salt Deposit of Pintados and Oasis of Pica

Excursion to the abandoned saltpeter installations in the Atacama Desert, to the petroglyphs of the Salt Deposit of Pintados and the Oasis of Pica. Early departure crossing the coastal cordillera towards the inner desert of Iquique; during the ascension we will appreciate a spectacular panoramic view of the City of Iquique beside the sea and its beautiful beaches, with the huge, sharp dune called Cerro Dragon standing out. We continue through the arid pampas displaying their immensity and beautiful contrasts in colors. We will stop at the former offices of saltpeter mines of Santa Laura and Humberstone, declared National Monuments, where we will be able to discover the splendorous past of saltpeter. Among their architecture, the boilers, chimneys, church, store, hotel and theater. We continue leaving behind ghost towns towards the petroglyphs of Pintados, one of the most important archaeological patrimonies of Chile, with over 400 figures drawn along the slopes of the mounts in panels or theme groups. They were made with mosaic, carved and mix techniques by the nomad tribes that inhabited the zone; then we continue to the Oasis of Pica and its XVII century church. Lunch and/or time off to enjoy the thermal baths of Cocha. Visit to the neighboring Oasis of Matilla and to the Town and Sanctuary of Tirana. Return to Iquique.

Breakfast. In due time transfer to the bus terminal or the airport of Iquique
