Tour Itinerary

DAY 01: International Arrival
Arrival, reception at airport and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Afternoon free, depending on arrival time of your flight. Overnight.

DAY 02: Santiago: City Tour
Breakfast. In the morning a city tour of Santiago de Chile. The first place visited is the Cerro Santa Lucia Hill, an important architectural complex, which constitutes an attractive and notable element in the image of the city. At an altitude of 628 m.a.s.l. it is the place of the original foundation of the city. Buildings such as the San Francisco Church with its convent surround it. Its XVIth and XVIIth century architecture present elements that have survived in traditional Chilean architecture.
We will continue on to the centre of the city, where the Main Square - Plaza de Armas with the Cathedral, the Royal Tribune - Real Audiencia, the Main Post Office - Correo Central, which used to be the residence of the Conquistador, and the Municipality of Santiago is situated. A few blocks away from the Plaza we will see the so called Coin Palace - La Moneda, which used to be the place where the Spaniards minted their coins, but today is the presidential palace and residence ever since the declaration of Chile's independence from the Spanish Crown.
Afternoon free.

DAY 03: Santiago - Viņa del Mar and Valparaiso - Santiago
Breakfast. In the morning we will start out on our visit to the city of Valparaiso, picturesque city, rich in native architecture, inspiration of artists and poets, which has been declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is located at 120 kilometres (almost 75 miles) from Santiago.

During the trip you will be able to appreciate the imposing view of the valleys of Curacavi and Casablanca with their famous vineyards. Once in Valparaiso, we will see the picturesque houses and the cable cars. We will make a stop over at the outlook viewpoint of the Mirador 21 de Mayo, one of the many in the city and which allows for a magnificent view over the bay of Valparaiso.

We will continue on to the neighbouring city of Viņa del Mar, the Garden City, which with its paradisiacal beaches is the most important beach resort in Chile, and one of the principal ones of South America. The sea and vegetation seems to be the perfect combination for this jewel of the Pacific, also known as the Garden City. It is located 9 kilometres (about 6 miles) northwest of Valparaiso and offers all types of comfort for its visitors.

Free time for lunch. (Not included in tour). Return to Santiago and your hotel.

DAY 04: Santiago - Punta Arenas - Weighing Anchor (SATURDAY)
Breakfast and then on to the airport at the appropriate time to board our flight to Punta Arenas. We will be met at the airport and transferred to the Cruise offices. We will board the M/V Mare Australis before 6:30 PM.

DAY 05: Cruising the Patagonian Channels
First light finds us navigating through Almirantazgo Bay, until we come close to the Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where we will hike to the Beaver dam and the Maggellan forest. We will also visit a Sea Elephant rookery. In the afternoon, we will pay a visit at a small colony of Magellan penguins on Tucker islet. There is a high probability of sighting dolphins and other cetaceans. Once back on the cruise ship, we can see that on the other side of the island there is a huge colony of cormorants and only 15 minutes away by ship we will come upon a rocky promontory with an important colony of sea lions and fur seals.

DAY 06: Cruising the Patagonian Channels
At dawn we will be in d´Agostini Bay. Sightings of the Serrano Glacier and later also the d`Agostini Glacier. We will land close to Condor Bay to admire a fiord and the Condor Glacier. Here we will take a walk and also a ride in rubber dinghy. After boarding the ship again we will sail down the Magdalena Canal until we reach the Brecknock Canal.

DAY 07: Cruising the Patagonian Channels
After cruising through Bahia Desolada Bay and the O`Brien and Balleneros Canals we will enter the nortwestern arm of the Beagle Canal to appreciate the majestic "Glacier Avenue" - "Avenida de los Glaciares": Espaņa, Romanche, Alemania, Italia, Francia and Holanda. We will land at Yendegaia Bay, where the first sheep station in Chilean Tierra de Fuego is located. During our visit we will clearly see the Yamana Indians conch living quarters. We will visit the area of the old station and we will walk up to the look out place. During this walk we will have the opportunity to see the particular vegetation to be found on this, the Big Island - Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego. There are birds everywhere i.e. the so-called caiquenes and sometimes a condor.
In the afternoon we will reach Puerto Williams, the southernmost town in the world, where you can take optional tours such as a visit to the Martin Gusinde Museum and the Beaver Lake and an impressive flight over Cape Horn.

DAY 08: Arrival at Ushuaia
Arrival at the City of Ushuaia (08:00 Hours). Transfer to your hotel.
In the afternoon we will start with a visit to the Tierra del Fuego National Park, with the entrance ticket to the Park included. We will enjoy the wonderful natural environment visiting the Roca Lake, the Castorera and the La Pataia Bay; end of the National Route N° 3, more than 3000 kilometres away from Buenos Aires.

DAY 09: Ushuaia - El Calafate
Breakfast. At an appropriate time transfer to the airport to board our flight to El Calafate. Arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel of your choice.

DAY 10: El Calafate: Glacier Perito Moreno
After breakfast we will make an excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier, declared Natural Heritage of Mankind by the UNESCO. This enormous mass of ice makes up a 4 kilometres (approximately 2.5 miles) long wall towering over the gelid waters of the Lago Argentino, where one can feel the vibration of the huge glacier calving icebergs into the lake.
Lunch on your own account at a local cafeteria in the area. In the afternoon we return to our hotel in El Calafate.

DAY 11: El Calafate - Torres del Paine
Breakfast. Regular Transfer bound for the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

DAY 12: Torres del Paine National Park
Free day to tour inside the Park, according to your physical capacity and interests you may take a walk or one of the excursions offered at the Park to visit its numerous lakes, waterfalls and glaciers.

DAY 13: Torres del Paine - Punta Arenas - Santiago
Breakfast. At due time transfer to Punta Arenas to take a flight bound for Santiago. Arrival, reception and transfer to your selected hotel.

DAY 14 International Departure
Breakfast. Free day depending on the departure time of your flight. Transfer to airport in time to board your international flight.

Useful Information
The capital of the Chilean Patagonia, presents a cold steppe climate, similar to all other populated centres in the area. Average annual mean temperatures in (the southern hemisphere) summer are 10,6 ēC (51 F) and in the (southern hemisphere) winter 2,0 ēC. (35 F) Annual average mean rainfall is 425 mm (16 inches), with January being the month with most rainfall.

We recommend to bring rain proof jackets and trousers, thermally insulated shirts, polar windbreaker, headgear with earmuffs, thermally insulated gloves and socks, shorts, sandals, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen and blocks and chap sticks (minimum factor 30) for your face and lips, insect repellent, sunshade, water proof hiking boots (if new, we recommend that you break them in before coming.), and other warm clothing.

Tap water is safe to drink in most places but we recommend you to stick to bottled water to avoid unpleasantries.

Punta Arenas has a full range of hospitals and clinics well equipped for any emergency.

The Chilean cuisine is very varied, we can mention a few typical dishes such as: Empanada de Pino (fried dough pastries filled with onions, meat, raisins and olives), Pastel de Choclo (corn pie prepared with sweet corn, meat, eggs and olives), Porotos Granados (tender beans cooked with squash and sweet corn), Cazuela de Ave or Vacuno (chicken or beef broth with cooked vegetables), apart from the typical regional local dishes.

Lastly, you must try the exquisite Mote con Huesillos, a dessert made out of cooked fruit and sweet corn.
