Tour: ATACAMA EXPLORATIONS

Tour to Atacama

With the Atacama Explorations you will learn about the multiple facets of this territory: its geography, its history, its fauna, its geology; and you will come near the volcanoes and know old villages.

The explorations have been designed considering a gradual acclimatization process to high altitudes. There are excursions taking place at altitudes of between 2.500 and 2.800 meters such as that to the Oasis of San Pedro, others at intermediate heights and finally those very demanding reaching steep summits above 6.000 meters.

During your time with Explora you will feel a growing challenge to know more and, perhaps, reach higher; although Explora is not meant as a competition ground. "Here everybody does whatever they wish to do" is our motto and sometimes it is as good to go for a walk as it is to go biking or simply remaining at the hotel relaxing.

Our weather is good throughout the year and there are hardly any limitations to take all the tours day by day.

Acclimatization Equipment Hikes Horse Rides Biking

Acclimatization

Climbing up high becomes an irresistible impulse. However, in order to do so you need to acclimatize. After a night and a day in Atacama an individual is much better prepared to climb above 3.000 meters. Going on explorations above 4.000 meters require experiencing minimum altitudes to see if your physical condition can allow you to go any higher.

In order to visit this many places and experience the different situations Atacama has to offer we recommend you to stay for 7 nights.

Equipment

In order to be comfortable and feel safe exploring Atacama we recommend you to bring at least the following gear:

  • Backpack (8 - 15 liters)
  • Trekking footwear
  • Different layers of coat
  • Convertible pants
  • Thick windbreaker
  • Sunscreen (30 SPF), shades and sun cap
  • Headwear and gloves for high-altitude hikes
  • Parka with feathers to climb above 5.000 meters.
