Santiago
has an efficient transport system. Getting from one place to another
is not an arduous task. Actually it is quite easy, fast and, usually,
very safe.
The public
transport buses are yellow. The
Santiago
dweller calls them "micros", and they are identified with a number
that they display at the front. This number indicates the route
they take. As for taxis, they are black with a yellow roof. They
ply the streets all day and they are equipped with meters.
The "
metro" (subway or underground) is the star transport
mode. It operates from Monday through Saturday from 6.30 a.m. through
10.30 p.m., whereas on Sundays and holidays the timetable is 8 a.m.
through 10.30 p.m.. Some of the stations on its three lines offer
linkups with the "metrobus".
Additionally, the railroad system offers
transport
services to neighboring towns and cities, such as Chillan, Concepcion
and Temuco. The main station is at Avenida Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins
3170.
If you wish to travel to the interior of the country, as well as
the railroad and, obviously, the domestic flights, you can use the
intercity bus lines which leave from four terminals in
Santiago
city.
