- Sotomo Hot Springs are wells with water at 37
to 41 degrees Celsius. Besides, the water is mineralized, containing
37 minerals and principally sulfur. They are located in the Reloncavi
estuary, between four national parks. The wells, surrounded by wilderness,
volcanoes and Andean massifs - appear when the tide begins to ebb,
as from December 20th, every year.
Here fishing fans can catch good specimens of salmon, robalos and jureles.
NATURAL AREAS
- Alerce Andino National Park, this is a natural
reserve covering 39,255 hectares, located in a mountainous area
south of Lake Chapo, between the estuary and the small bay of Reloncavi.
Among the protected native vegetable species are: the larch,
tineos,
maņios, cinnamon trees, ferns and lianas; while the fauna includes:
pudu deer, gray foxes,
chingues and monitos del monte.
However, perhaps the most impressive thing is the forest landscape, enhanced by the waters of Sargazo lake and the deep gash eroded by the Lenca river.
Within the park there are campsites and lodges for visitors, who can undertake exciting excursions, especially along the Sargazo trail, a 10 km itinerary that displays a series of dream landscapes.
- Lahuen Ņadi Natural Park, in the interior of
this park you will find the area called El Rincon, significant due
to the fact it contains the only specimens of larch trees in the
central valley, guaranteeing the survival of the species, which
had been indiscriminately felled. Other examples of flora are the
coigües and cinnamon trees.
Among the animals are found chucao tapaculos, black-throated huet-huets,
Darwin toads,
choroys, monitos del monte, hares and chingues.
- Llanquihue National Reserve, this is 60 km east
of
Puerto Montt and extends over 33,974 hectares.
Its flora presents species such as
tepas, maņios, coiques, tiacas
and lumas. Among the fauna we can observe upland geese, peucos,
black-throated huet-huets, hawks and condors.
Trekking fans will find trails and pathways specially reserved for this purpose.
