PUCON
GASTRONOMY
Travelling palates will party at the restaurants of Pucon with the delicious recipes of Chilean gastronomy, which has a certain influence of Mediterranean cuisine in this part of the country.
But this is not all; the mouth watering menus include cosmopolitan flavours of international cuisine at the gourmet temples located on Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins Avenue and the neighbouring streets.
Amongst the typical dishes, the weighty porotos granados, based on beans, green chilli, corn and chunks of gourd dressed with onion, tomato and spices, stand out.
At hors d'oeuvres nothing like the pebre cuchareado, a delicious spicy appetiser with onions, aromatic herbs and chilli. It is served on a large dish and is accompanied by bread and butter. It is always present at typical restaurants and is consumed by their patrons while waiting for the main course.
The dishes based on the "little birds", which is the name given to the birds hunted by the people of Pucon, make for another local gastronomic attraction. Their seductive seasoning and the special taste of tender meat turn them into a true delight.
Sweet dishes add to these recipes, such as the sopaipillas, prepared with milk cream, flour, sugar and grated lemon and gourd; besides the classical empanadas, the corn pies and the exquisite humitas, so much appreciated in the entire country.
You will be able to try the weighty breakfasts based on white or brown bread, recently milked milk, yogurt, dried meat and organic fruits, meaning pesticide free, at more than one restaurant in Pucon. And as is the case in all the destinations in the vicinity of rivers and lagoons, Pucon offers its visitors exquisite fish.
If you have "broken" with meats, do not worry too much; here you will find vegetarian restaurants offering quiches (pies made of vegetables), crepes and empanadas made of vegetables. Is there any thing else you wish?
