ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK
PUERTO MONTT
ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK (located 46 kilometers
east of Puerto Montt)
It covers a surface area of 39,255 hectares, and is located between the bay and estuary of Reloncavi in a mountainous area extending south of Chapo lake.
Its main features are a wooded landscape, Lake Sargazo and the Lenca
river valley. Among its native species may be found larches, tineos,
mañios, cinnamon trees, ferns and lianas. Fauna is represented
by the pudu, the guila, the gray fox, the chingue
and the monito del monte.
One of the interesting excursion trails is the 10 km long Sargazo Track, that takes one to Sargazo and Fria lakes in Las Chaicas sector, and the Chaiquenes and Triangulo lakes.
The Park possesses four Guarderias located in the Correntoso,
Sargazo, Lake Chapo and Chaicas River Valley sectors. It has camping
areas and lodges.
Among the possible activities here are the following:
- Walks that may last several days, through the mountains and wilderness areas, organized in stages to learn about the landscape, the fauna, the flora and the native communities of the area from an anthropological point of view.
- Flora and fauna observation, and walks to admire the wildlife and wild flowers in the wilderness areas.
- Photography, including shots of the interiors and exteriors of buildings when authorized.
- Horse riding and horse treks to different places and areas of special beauty. |

- Mountain climbing, which can include rocky and snowy sectors, but without technical climbing difficulty and only up to 5,000 meters altitude.

LAHUEN ÑADI NATURAL PARK, (located 13 km west of
Puerto Montt)
This includes part of the El Rincon property, possessing the only central valley larch forest with medium-age specimens, with a trunk diameter between 30 and 60 centimeters. Here there are also other species, such as coigües and cinnamon trees.
As regards fauna, species such as chucao tapaculos, black-throated
huet huets, Darwin's toads, choroys, monitos del monte,
hares and chingues may be observed, among others.
There is a track enabling one to visit part of this unit and see the larches and their associated vegetation. The walk lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. There is an information and administration office and vehicle parking.
Among possible activities are:
- Hiking on foot trails - a simpler option than trekking, and lasting a shorter time (one day, with a picnic).
- Bird Watching, including flying, behavior and habitat.
- Flora and fauna sighting, consisting of strolls through wilderness areas to admire animals and flowers.
- Photography, consisting of taking indoor or outdoor shots at authorized places.
