Despite its being surrounded by the immensity of the ocean, Easter Island is no longer "the most solitary place in the whole world". It has now become one of the greatest tourist destinations in Chile, reachable either by plane or by ship.
By Air
This is the favorite and simplest way to get to the island. Flights from Santiago de Chile and Papeete (Tahiti) arrive at Mataveri International Airport several times a week. The airport has the longest landing strip in Chile.
At present, Lan Chile is the only airline offering regular flights to the island. The flight from Santiago takes approximately 5 hours.
By Sea
Sea traffic is mainly restricted to supply ships with regular routes. Nonetheless, European cruises also arrive in the island at the peak of the tourist season (December to April)
TRANSFERS IN EASTER ISLAND
Anywhere else in the world, the mere idea of visiting tourist attractions
by bike would sound absurd. But, on
Easter Island,
this is one of the most popular choices. Riding around the small
but fascinating island becomes a pleasant experience, enabling tourists
to discover exciting landscapes while in close contact with nature.
Nonetheless, if bikes are not your favorite means of transport, there is nothing to worry about. It is also possible to travel by taxi, rent minibuses, cars, motorbikes and even horses. There are many options at hand: it is just a matter of making up your mind and choosing the best way to move around.
