EASTER ISLAND
TAPATI RAPA NUI
There is an annual celebration taking place during the first fortnight of February, where the islanders remember their ancestral habits, which remain alive amongst the community. There are activities and competitions spinning around the election of a beauty queen for 15 days, where the entire community takes part grouped according to ancestral family relations. The most outstanding activities are the exhibitions of painted bodies, the dance and music festivals where groups coming from other Polynesian islands participate, and the sliding on a banana trunk down the Pu'i Hill, called Haka Pei; along with gastronomic festivals and many other activities where the most varied customs are revived.
