The El Loa airport in

Another alternative is renting a car. If you do so, you must take
Route 5 from the Northern Panamericana. It is recommended to spend
the night in Caldera or in Bahía Inglesa, and then continue up to
Calama.

Calama, the trip lasts almost 2 hours. The bus

* International Route
By land, Calama is connected with the city of Salta (Argentina). The trip lasts 12 hours and the road is paved and open all the year round. Buses leave twice a week (Wednesdays and Sundays). The trip is across Jama International Pass and Customs control is in San Pedro de Atacama.
RAILWAY
The main route is the one joining
Calama and Uyuni
(Bolivia). The trip lasts around 20 hours, although it can take
longer due either to migration procedures in the town of Ollagüe,
207 kilometers from
Calama, or to adverse weather
conditions.
The train, which leaves every Wednesday from the train station in
Calama, does not offer much comfort because it
is mainly used for freight transport.
